Union Minister for Industries Vilas Rao Deshmukh will inaugurate the Uthrittathi snakeboat regatta in the Pampa river at Aranmula.
Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran, would inaugurate the boat race, said K.V. Sambadevan, Palliyoda Seva Sanghom president, Ratheesh R. Mohan, secretary and P. Mohanachandran, convener, at a press conference here.
Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan will release the souvenir and Water Resources Minister N.K. Premachandran will preside. Devaswom Minister Kadannappally Ramachandran will present trophies to the winners at the valedictory.
Sambadevan said the Water Resources Minister would be honoured at the function in recognition of his contributions to the smooth conduct of the regatta during the past four years. According to him, for the first time in its history, 44 snakeboats will take part in this year’s regatta.
District Collector S.Lalithambika will hoist the ceremonial flag. The chief guests will be accorded a ceremonial reception at 1 p.m. The regatta will begin with a procession of snakeboats at 1.30 p.m. followed by the boat race.
The winners in the race, which will be held in ‘A’ and ‘B’ groups, will be presented with the gold-plated Mannam Trophy. Sambadevan said PSS has made arrangements to serve food to all those who turn up to watch the regatta at Sree Parathasarathy Temple premises on Friday.
