Peter James "Pete" Bethune (born April 4, 1965) is a New Zealand promoter of bio-fuels and conservationist. He is the holder of the world record for the fastest trip around the world in a powerboat and is involved with the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.[1] He was captain of the Ady Gil (previously the Earthrace) until it sank following a collision with a Japanese whaling vessel. Pete Bethune, the anti whaling activist from New Zealand has finally returned home to his family in Auckland. Tears were there on his eyes and he was chocking with emotion when he met his wife and two children at the airport. He was caught by the Japanese Government and had to remain in a Japanese gaol for four long months. He was greeted at the airport by three of his supporters and around 20 media people.
